About Nobility

Russian noblemen used to speak French with their friends and family. The language distanced them from ordinary people and helped to keep their power. After the Napoleon's War, on a high wave of patriotism, some noblemen started looking for English teachers for their children; but still French remained the language of ruling class.

Pushkin was born in 1799, 13 years before the wave, so his first language was French. Famous Russian poet had African appearance and spoke French as his first language.

Same idea about language border was practiced in Japan. Japanese nobility used Chinese language to keep their secrets against their own folk. The Brits spoke Latin in their homes to begin with, later they turned to some other languages. They had their socialist revolution before other countries, so due to the question of safety, they were to refuse the bad habit of speaking foreign in their homes. Some of them learned English instead, some others left to set up American language.

Pushkin made a revolution in Russian poetry: he was the one who started writing simple down-to-earth language instead of using old archaic poetic forms.
