Today

Its a funny word, isn't? 'To day', 'to dawn' , 'to sunset'. There also is a day in Russian "today" - "сего-дня".

сего - this very (an old high poetic word, used now for poetry of some highly official documents, like a Solicitor's Language)
дня - of a day
All together: "of this very day" - "to day". I can't understand why.

Now forget the сегодня spelling. Listen to the way it pronounces: сиводня, сиводне or сиводни,
see - vodka - knee.

People are always happy to learn something close to vodka. This is a common line between Russian and British cultures.

Today is Thursday.
Сегодня четверг.

Сиводни читверк
Caution: never use this pink sample for spelling!
